Food & Drink Austria
Austria is well known for its varied selection of traditional dishes, drinks and pastries. Some of the most famous are Wiener Schnitzel (Viennese cutlet), Tafelspitz (corned beef), the Kärntner Kasnudeln (cheese-filled noodle pockets), and a variety of dumplings. Beer breweries and wineries have as much to do with Austrian tradition as Austrian cheese and bacon production, and the regional asparagus harvest. Among the most well-known sweets are the Mozartkugeln (chocolate covered marzipan pralines), the Sachertorte, Salzburger Nockerln (meringue dessert), and all types of strudels.
Austrian cuisine is internationally reknowned for its pastry confections and candies. Additionally, a regional cuisine has developed in modern times, which favours regional products and takes advantage of easier modern methods of preparation.
