Food & Drink Czech Republic
The Czech Republic offers a multitude of mainly rich and savoury dishes. Fans of meat, abundant side dishes and full-bodied sauces will certainly be satisfied here! The old Bohemian cuisine offers many culinary specialities, such as potato dishes (potato fritter, dumplings and mashed potatoes), various meat dishes such as roast pork, cheese schnitzel and goulash, which are generally served with sauerkraut, as well as various mushroom dishes or fruit-filled sweet dumplings. Fish is also served quite often, particularly mackerel, as these are fished from local rivers. Carp is traditionally served at Christmas. Meals are generally served in three courses: an aromatic soup to start, a hearty entrée and a sweet dessert at the end. You should also definitely try one of the excellent local beers. The well-known Pils comes originally from the west Bohemian city Pilsen, and the world-famous Budweiser is also brewed in the Czech Republic.
