Culture France
France derives its position in Europe and the world from the peculiarities of its culture, which is particularly defined by its language. In media policy, culture and language are promoted using quotes from films and music. Within the European Union, UNESCO and WTO, France emphatically pursues its concept defending cultural diversity („diversité culturelle“): Culture is not a commodity that can be freely and boundlessly traded. National care and preservation of the rich material cultural heritage are seen as tasks of national importance. This understanding is also transported by state organised or supported measures, which contribute to the developmentof a national cultural awareness. The annual cultural calendar also has firmly set days for national heritage, music or cinemas, which find wide popularity among the French. Generously tailored cultural events correspond with France's self-image as a cutlural nation and Paris as a cultural metropolis.
