Food & Drink Germany
German cuisine is quite diverse and varies widely from region to region. Above all, Germany is famous for its savoury and rich dishes, e.g. knuckle of pork with sauerkraut, kale or various stews. Regional cuisine is also quite diverse and is influenced by nearby countries. Potatoes are eaten in Northern Germany, and in the south you will also find traditional dumplings and "spätzle." Regional specialities are, e.g. "Weißwurst" in Old Bavaria, Bratwurst in Franconia, "Maultaschen" in Baden-Württemberg, Thuringian "Rostbratwurst", and in Hamburg, Berlin and the Ruhr region the "Currywurst". Strong international influences are also found today in German cuisine, including the popular pizza, spaghetti and döner. Moreover, there are also many Greek, Indian and Chinese restaurants. Coffee is heavily consumed, as well as tea in the north. The Germans also love their (regionally different) beer, as well as various wines.
