Food & Drink Italy
Italian cuisine consists of diverse of regional variations. Due to the geographical locations and tradition, it falls back on a variety of ingredients and specialities. Tasty polenta made from cornmeal in northern Italy, wild boar specialities in central Italy, exclusive truffles from Piedmont, or fresh fish and seafood from Calabria and the Italian lakes are only a few of the plentiful culinary treats. Internationally known products include Italian olive oil, diverse cheeses (Parmigiana, mozzarella, and Gorgonzola), sausages and meat specialities (mortadella, salami, San Daniele ham, and prosciutto) and, of course, pasta and pizza in unlimited numbers and shapes. It is impossible to imagine a table without a comprehensive native wine selection, such as Chianti and Barolo. In Italy, dinner is the customary main meal, which is usually comprised of an appetiser or antipasti, two main courses, and a dessert.
