Lake Constance surrounds the three bodies of water in the northern Alpine foothills - Obersee, Untersee and Seerhein. With a total surface area of 536 km² and a volume of 48 km², Lake Constance is Central Europe's third-largest lake. Its shoreline stretches along German, Swiss and Austrian borders. Obersee is Lake Constance's main body of water and stretches between Bregenz (Austria) and Bodman-Ludwigshafen. Constance is the largest city on Lake Constance, and a popular day trip destination due to its historical city centre and the Mainau Island, which belongs to the city. Walzenhausen is located in the Three-Country Point of Germany-Switzerland-Austria, elevated 300 m above Lake Constance. Whether with your own car or the 110-year-old cog railway, the mountain train Rheineck-Walzenhausen, the resort named "balcony over Lake Constance" is comfortably reached. Arriving above, visitors can enjoy a gorgeous panorama view of the lake, the Voralberg to the Tyrolean Alps, over the university city of Constance.
